Staff Reporter

Struck by a novel idea, wage-seekers catch hold of two cows and tie their representation to the horns

ANANTAPUR: Wage employment seekers from Alamuru, Mundabandapalli and several surrounding villages in Anantapur rural mandal staged a dharna in front of the RDO's office here on Wednesday protesting denial of work under NREGS for over a month.

They alleged that their request for work under the scheme was being neglected by mandal officials for more than a month now.

Wage work seekers in villages around the district headquarters had been suffering due to lack of work after the harvest of rabi crops, they said.

There was not much work available in the district headquarters town too and mony of them were not in a position to work as construction labourers in the town.

As no official of the RDO's office was forthcoming to receive their representation, they caught hold of two cows roaming on the streets, brought them to the RDO's office and tied the representation to their horns.

Later, they went to the DRO's office and submitted their memorandum to the officer.
