DYFI to oppose Centre's economic policy

CHENNAI: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has resolved to resist the Central Government's economic policy.

In its resolutions passed at the conclusion of its 8th All-India Conference on Friday, the organisation has also decided to increase the number of its members to 2 crore.

It would "continue its opposition to imperialistic globalisation, fundamentalism and separatism." The organisation would also fight against commercialisation of education and unemployment. The DYFI would press for land reforms, reservation, women's rights, freedom of the Press.

More than 900 members from across the country participated in the conference that commenced on Tuesday. New office-bearers to various posts and the Central Committee were elected.

The all-India president is Sreeramakrishnan, general secretary Tapas Sinha and the treasurer Pushpendra Tyagi. Tamil Nadu DYFI secretary S. Kannan has been elected as one of the vice-presidents.
