BANGALORE: A four-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Ramanagaram, the constituency of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, on Friday morning.

The police gave the name of the boy as Yasin Khan, son of Nasir Khan, an employee of a silk twisting unit and a resident of Yarabnagar in Ramanagara town.

The police said that around 6 a.m. a pack of seven to eight dogs attacked Yasin while he was defecating in a vacant area near his house.

When Yasin did not return home, his elder sister went in search of him and found his mutilated body. The dogs had bitten him all over the body and he had bled to death, the police said.

Yarabnagar is situated near the banks of the dried up Arkavathi river. Dead silk worms and leftover meat from butcheries are flung in the thick bushes on the riverbank. This has been attracting several dogs to the area, a police officer said.

Following the boy's death, the residents of Yarabnagar vented their anger when the Ramanagaram Town Municipal Council (TMC) officials visited the spot to pacify the victim's family.

TMC Commissioner Shivanna assured the people that immediate measures would be taken to clean up the filth in the area.
