BANGALORE: The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee will organise a programme at Ankola in Uttara Kannada district on May 16 to mark the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi's Satyagraha. Announcing this at a press conference here on Saturday, KPCC president M. Mallikarjun Kharge said the centenary celebrations would be held at Krantikari Maidan at Shetageri in Ankola taluk. He recalled that farmers of Ankola, Sirsi, Siddapur and Hirekerur had launched a non-violent Campaign against payment of tax between 1930 and 1934. The highlight of the programme is an exhibition of newspaper reports on the freedom struggle. The exhibition will have photographs on Gandhiji's life and struggle and portraits of 365 freedom fighters. Freedom fighters of Uttara Kannada district will be felicitated on the occasion.
