Tamil Nadu - Erode

Municipal officials' plea

Staff Reporter

ERODE: The Federation of Tamil Nadu Municipal Officials Association has appealed to the Tamil Nadu Government to make municipal employees as Government employees.

A request to this effect was made through a resolution passed at the regional-level meeting of the federation held here recently.

The federation said that the municipal employees were made Government employees some years back, but the AIADMK Government had changed the Government order and brought them under the local administration department.

They were being paid salary and other benefits from the respective municipalities. In case of any funds crunch, salaries would be paid only after the funds situation improved.

By another resolution, the meeting highlighted the need to upgrade Erode Selection Grade Municipality into Municipal Corporation, immediately after constituency re-orientation works were completed in June.

The meeting said street light workers had not been given any promotion for the past 15 years.

The Chief Minister should order the appointment of necessary employees to the engineering sections of all Municipalities, and especially appoint Assistant Engineers for each municipality, another resolution said.
