Bangalore: It is that time of the year again when students, fresh out of school, are ready to enter portals of higher education. Confusion and anxiety abound as students and their parents try to make sense of the huge range of educational options open before them. It is to bring some clarity into the process of selection of colleges and specialisations that Education Plus, the popular supplement on higher education brought out by The Hindu , conducts an annual Pre-Counselling guidance session for students where professionals of eminence from different fields discuss career options before students. This year's pre-counselling session will be held at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on May 21 (Monday). Students and parents who wish to attend are requested to be in their seats by 9.45 a.m. The chief guest for the session will be B. Somashekhar, former Minister for Higher Education and Janata Dal (United) State unit president. He will speak on "Is the CET process still a relevant exercise?" The panellists include Swaminathan Krishnan, Chief Marketing Officer, SASKEN, who will speak on "Prospects in the IT and telecom sectors"; S.G. Hegde, Commissioner, Department of Pre-University Education, who will speak on "simplifying the CET counselling process"; S. Kumar, Executive Secretary Comed-K, who will speak on "a career in medicine and para-medical services"; Sudha Bhogle, head of Eduquity Career Technologies, who will speak on "soft skills as a career booster"; and M.S.
