Eviction begins at Marari Beach Resort

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: The district administration on Saturday began eviction procedures at the Marari Beach Resort, one of the popular beach stays on the Alappuzha coast, after the resort came under the scanner following charges of possession of `undocumented land.'

The resort, 15 km from Alappuzha, owns part of the 25-acre area it is situated on through title deeds, said district officials. However, it was alleged that the group had bought `undocumented land' lying close to the

title deed land. The Cherthala tahsildar received a complaint from a social organisation on the illegal possession and sent a village officer to probe the complaint. "The village officer found that the complaint was factual and we decided to evict the illegal portions of the resort," tahsildar Kabir said. The procedures, which began late on Saturday with measurements of the entire land, continued late into the night.
