Farmer dies of sunstroke

KADAPA: A farmer G. Nadipi Nagaiah (58) died of sunstroke in Mallayapalle village in Khajipet mandal on Saturday. He suffered from severe dehydration while helping his son and daughter-in-law in putting fertilisers in their fields and died soon after drinking a glass of water at home, according to information. - Staff Reporter

14 vice-sarpanches elected

KADAPA: Fourteen vice-sarpanches had been elected in 19 gram panchayats in 14 mandals in Kadapa district on Friday, District Panchayat Officer Hameed Khan said on Saturday. Election of five vice-sarpanches had been put off on various counts, he told newsmen. Fresh date of election of vice-sarpanches would be declared shortly. - Staff Reporter

Coaching centre owner arrested

KADAPA: A coaching centre owner Abbugari Lakshminarayana was arrested on charges of cheating a woman by giving fake documents of a piece of land in Kadapa city. The woman complained to the police that Lakshminarayana took a loan of Rs. 2 lakh from her and in lieu, gave her fake documents for four cents of land near ITI circle here. Kadapa Taluk sub-inspector Ramakrishnudu registered a case. - Staff Reporter

26 passengers injured in accident

NIZAMABAD: Nearly 26 passengers were injured, six of them grievously, in a road accident that took place near Perkit under the Armoor police station limits on Saturday afternoon. The accident took place when the Armoor bound RTC bus coming from Vennel (B) collided with a speeding lorry at Balkonda crossroad. The seriously injured were admitted to M.J. Two held on charge of lifting motorbikes

NIZAMABAD: Town police led by N. Lakshminarayana, CI, on Friday evening arrested two persons, Sathbeer Singh and Deverki Ramesh, and recovered 12 stolen motorbikes worth Rs.3 lakhs. Presenting them before the mediapersons here on Saturday evening, Deputy SP K. Change in name of NISIET

HYDERABAD: The name of the National Institute of Small Industry Extension Training (NISIET) has been changed in accordance with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, to facilitate the promotion and development of SMEs. The NISIET is being called `National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises', with effect from April 11, according to a press release. — Special Correspondent
