BANGALORE: A 19-year-old niece of Bangalore South MP H.N. Ananth Kumar died on the spot when her car rammed a stationary truck on Bellary Road in Chikkajala police station limits early on Saturday. The police gave her name as Amritha, daughter of G.R. Narayan and Suhasini, residents of Ranoji Rao Street, Basavanagudi. She was a student of II BBM in Jain College, the police said. Ms. Suhasini is Mr. Ananth Kumar's sister. The other occupants of the car, Rahul (19), a III B.Com. student and resident of Sampangiramanagar, Sunny (18), a PUC dropout and resident of Kilari Road, and Goda (18), a II PU student, were injured. They have been hospitalised. The accident occurred near Bettahalli Cross around 5.30 a.m. when the four were returning from Nandi Hills. Rahul was driving the car. The Chikkajala police have registered a case.
Arrested
The Basavanagudi police arrested five men on charges of attempt to murder in connection with a fatal attack that took place on May 2 on Rajiv Reddy alias Koyya Piyya. The police gave the names of the accused as Vivek alias Appu (21), resident of Balajinagar, Ashoka (22), resident of K.G. Nagar, Pavan alias Pradeep (19), resident of Mallathalli, Srinivas alias Elaneer Seena (22), resident of Chennammanakere Achchukattu and Dinesh alias Dinakar (20), resident of Ittamadagu. The police claimed that the accused were the associates of Korangu Krishna and Linga alias Lingaraja, who are in jail. Linga had paid the accused to eliminate Reddy, his old rival. The accused bought a car with the money, waylaid Reddy on K.R. Road and attacked him with weapons before fleeing. Incidentally, Ashoka is also an accused in the murders of Suresh alias Suri and Tony alias Anthony, which took place in Kengeri Police Station limits on September 10, 2006. The police said the gang used to take shelter at the house of Basavaraja alias "General" at Malavalli after committing a crime. The police raided the house and recovered a huge quantity of explosives.
Killed
A moped rider was killed on the spot when a multi-utility vehicle hit him on Kasturba Road in Cubbon Park Traffic police station limits on Friday evening. The police gave the name of the victim as Manjunath (57); working at the Accountant-General's Office and a resident of Thyagarajanagar. The police registered a case.
Pedestrian killed
Venkatalakshmamma (65), a pedestrian, died on the spot when a BMTC bus hit her in Malleswaram Traffic police station limits on Thursday evening. The accident occurred near the BMTC bus stop on 18th Cross. The police registered a case.
