Jawan among 5 killed in Manipur

Imphal: Five persons, including a Manipur Rifles jawan, were killed in insurgency-related incidents in Manipur on Thursday.

Official sources said there was a heavy exchange of fire between militants of the Kuki Revolutionary Army and personnel of the 7th Manipur Rifles battalion at Gapizang in Senapati district.

A jawan, identified as Riya Mohon Tangkhul, was killed in the encounter that lasted more than five hours.

The incident occurred when the Manipur Rifles personnel, who rushed to Gapizang, following information about the movement of ultras, were fired upon by militants operating in that part of the hills. — PTI
