Trehan, team begin on a busy note

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: It was a "good, pleasant and busy day'' for noted cardiologist Naresh Trehan and his team of doctors who joined Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals here on Monday. Calling the move "a first step towards building a healthy long-term relationship'', Dr. Trehan dismissed suggestions about his joining any other hospital as a consultant.

"I have joined as a senior consultant with Apollo Hospitals and I see a bright future with this organisation. So far it has been a fine day. My patients have come to me here and we will start performing operations from Wednesday,'' said Dr. Trehan, who was sacked by Escorts Heart Institute on May 18 only to be reinstated on May 26 as part of an out-of-court settlement with the management of the Institute. He and his team of doctors later resigned to join Apollo Hospital.

While Dr. Trehan and his team claimed to have had a busy day at work in Apollo Hospitals, his former employer Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre Limited announced the appointment of cardiologist T. S. Kler as Executive Director of Cardiac Sciences, a post previously held by Dr. Trehan.

Other appointments include Dr. K. S. Iyer as Head of Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, and Dr. Yugal Mishra and Dr. Vijay Kohli as Directors for Adult Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Anil Karlekar will be Head of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine. It was announced that the Board of Directors had re-designated Shivinder Mohan Singh as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Escorts Hospital.
