Temperature drops

in the Capital

NEW DELHI: Delhiites heaved a sigh of relief on Monday as the maximum temperature dropped by nearly six degrees from Sunday's to settle at 38.5 degrees.

The Capital had experienced the season's highest temperature of 44.1 degrees on Saturday.

Case against

former MP

NEW DELHI: The Delhi police have registered a case against former Member of Parliament Anand Mohan on charges of criminally intimidating a businessman at the Rajasthan Guest House in Chanakyapuri here on Saturday night.

According to the complainant, Shambhu Singh, Mr. Mohan and his security guard entered his room in which he and his son were staying. Mr. Mohan allegedly threatened him and also roughed up his son.

On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case and are investigating.

Arrested for cheating

NEW DELHI: A man who allegedly tried to cheat senior Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on the pretext of helping the party chief Mulayam Singh get a clean chit in an alleged disproportionate assets case has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police.

Mr. Singh contacted Delhi Police Commissioner K.K. Paul on Monday morning alleging that a man posing as a senior law officer in the Union Law Ministry was demanding money from him to get a case of alleged disproportionate assets settled.

Acting on the complaint, a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav detained the man when he came to meet Mr. Singh. He was identified as Varun Kumar Verma, a resident of Lajpat Nagar.

During interrogation, he purportedly disclosed that he was a private tutor. He recently came across newspaper reports about the case of alleged disproportionate assets against Mr. Mulayam Singh and allegedly planned to extract money from Mr. Singh on the pretext of getting the matter settled.

He has been charged with cheating.
