School demolition halted in Villivakkam

CHENNAI : A City Civil Court on Tuesday evening put on hold the order directing the Chennai Corporation to demolish the St. Joseph's Matriculation school's building in Villivakkam.

Following the decision, the Corporation stopped the demolition.

It is learnt that the Chennai Corporation filed a counter petition on Wednesday and the case has been adjourned to Thursday.

Demolition will not be resumed until further directions, according to an official of the Corporation.

Correspondent of the school J.N. Kesari said a few students turned up on Wednesday.

They were accommodated in the space available and classes were conducted there, he said.

However, fearing further demolition, many parents demanded that transfer certificates be issued to their children, he added.
