Two held for burning effigy

CHENNAI : Two men were arrested on charges of burning an effigy of Congress leader Veerappa Moily here on Wednesday.

Police said Kandaraj and Delli of Adam Kasim Street in Royapuram set fire to the effigy to express their protest against Mr. Moily not offering the Rajya Sabha seat to Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president M. Krishnasswamy. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.

Gold chain recovered

An 18-sovereign gold chain snatched from a woman was recovered and a man arrested in this connection here on Wednesday.

According to an official press release, an unidentified youth had snatched a gold chain from a woman on Satya Garden Street. K.K.Nagar police had registered a case.

During night patrolling near Porur, the police questioned a youth moving around in a suspicious manner. He admitted that he had stolen a gold chain belonging to a woman in K.K.Nagar. After recovering the property, the accused, Narayanan (22), was produced before a city court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
