Three die in road accident

BANGALORE: Three persons were killed in a collision between two lorries on National Highway 4 in Thyamagondalu police station limits in Bangalore Rural district early on Saturday.

The police said that around 4 a.m. a rice-laden lorry coming from Davangere to Bangalore rammed a sand-laden stationary lorry near Prince dhaba.

Two persons in the moving lorry, Basavaraj (26) and Suresh (24), and an unidentified man sleeping under the stationary lorry were killed on the spot. The Thyamagondalu police have registered a case.

Woman murdered

Investigation into the mysterious death of Kalavathi (32), a mother of two, at her house on Thursday night has revealed that she was murdered allegedly by a man with whom she had an affair. The police said Kalavathi of Bhadrappa Layout in Hebbal had an affair with Prakash, a tempo driver, and he used to often come to her house. On Thursday night, he quarrelled with Kalavathi as she had failed to repay a loan borrowed from him.

In a fit of rage, Prakash hit Kalavathi on the head with a helmet and strangled her to death. The Hebbal police have registered a case of murder.

Arrested

The J.P. Nagar police arrested seven youths who allegedly murdered Shivaraju near his house in Ragigudda slum on June 3.

The police said that around 2 p.m. on June 3 Shivaraju saw Chanda Basha (20) of Ragigudda slum smoking a cigarette near a shop.

He slapped Basha and advised him to give up smoking. Angered by this, Basha threatened Shivaraju that he would teach him a lesson. Around 6 p.m.

Basha and others attacked Shivarju with swords, choppers and clubs, killing him on the spot. The gang also attacked some passers-by who intervened and they suffered injuries. The gang was planning to kill Shivaraju's friend Suresh too, the police said. The accused, all from Ragigudda slum, were arrested in Tamil Nadu. They were identified as Nawaz (20), Satyavelu (19), Raju (18), Manjunath (18), Ranjith (19) and Vishwanath (18).

Murdered

A gang of eight persons reportedly murdered a construction contractor "Jelli" Venkatesh (35) in his "room" in G.M. Colony in Thilaknagar police station limits on Saturday evening. The police suspect enmity could be the reason for the murder.
