ALAPPUZHA: The Ambalapuzha police seized 7,000 litres of spirit from the premises of an automobile workshop near Thottapally here early on Sunday.

Ambalapuzha Circle Inspector M.V. Rajendran said a night patrol team led by him and comprising Sub-Inspector (SI) K.P. Mohan and Assistant SI Venugopal became suspicious when they saw tyre marks just outside the workshop at 2 a.m. On seeing the gate open, they decided to check the premises. "We saw a white Qualis parked there and there were around four persons there, loading plastic cans into the vehicle. Seeing us, they fled. There were five cans in the vehicle, and we recovered 45 cans from the workshop's tool room. On further inspection, we recovered 150 more cans from various spots on the premises. All of them were full of illegal spirit," he said.
