BANGALORE: Fashion designers in the making from the Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) demonstrated their creative best on the ramp at Chowdaiah Memorial Hall on Saturday.

The students, who gave vibrant and pleasing colours to their ideas of clothing and got the models selected by them to walk the ramp, competed with one another in different categories such as “Best Creative Garment”, “Best Accessories” and “Best Theme”.

One of stunning designs created by Shilpa Y.U. had a headgear that emitted a pleasing blue light. The dress had similar shoulder pieces too.

It won her the top honours in the “Best Accessories” category. Sangeetha’s design on the theme “Evolution” was adjudged the best in the “Best Themes” category, and M. Asha Raju’s “Cosmic rays” was awarded the “Best Creative Garment”.

Asha said about her design: “You can say this dress is my baby. I have put in everything I could.” Sangeetha attributed her success to the support of her “mom and dad”. Shilpa had no words to describe her feelings.

Among the few designs that did not seem to make much sense was one which had “Mother Theresa” as its theme. It did not seem to have anything to do with the Noble laureate. A dance performance set to Kannada hit “Onde ondu saari…” from Mungaru Male impressed.

An audiovisual presentation on how the students had designed the clothes took the audience behind the glitter of the fashion show.
