Sundar steals the show

IRINJALAKUDA: Rising star S. Sundar, who gave Kerala some heady moments at the sub-junior National last year, continued his impressive run in the 18th Don Bosco Open State-ranking table tennis tournament at the Don Bosco indoor stadium here on Sunday.

The 13-year-old from the Alappuzha YMCA TT Academy won three titles (sub-junior, junior and youth) and also forced State champion P. Adarsh to sweat in the men's final. Cochin Port Trust's Adarsh and Thiruvananthapuram's Anju K. Thomas bagged the men and women's titles.

The results: Men's singles: final: P. Adarsh (CPT, Ekm) bt S. Sundar (AYTTA, Alp) 11-7, 2-11, 10-12, 11-5, 12-10, 11-6. Semifinals: Adarsh bt Vishnu Naryan (AYTTA) 11-9, 11-8, 4-11, 11-5, 11-8; Sundar bt R. Rajesh (SBI, Tvm) 11-9, 11-3, 11-8, 11-6.

Boys, youth final: Sundar bt Sarath V. Joy (AYTTA) 11-7, 10-12, 11-6, 17-15. Semifinals: Sundar bt Vishu Narayan 11-5, 10-12, 16-14, 10-12, 11-9; Sarath bt S. Arjun (NKM, Tvm) 12-10, 12-10, 11-4.
