Chennai: A fashion show to exhibit garments designed by outgoing students of the Apparel Training and Designing Centre (ATDC), Guindy, was organised here on Friday.

Apparel Export Promotion Council executive committee member Manav Goyal inaugurated the event, in which the students exhibited fashions, including traditional, modern and casual wear.

Mr. Goyal said the ATDC had 22 centres and 12 satellite centres all over the country. The aim of the Centre was not just to provide training in the final stages of preparing designer wear, but at all levels from manufacturing, cutting, production, supervision and quality control.

P.C. Balasubramanian, deputy registrar, said this was the fourth fashion show being held by the central government training centre. It trained students in fashion designing and garment manufacturing with an international perspective.

“After training, most of the students get employed with major garment export companies all over the country,” he said. The centres in Tamil Nadu are at Guindy and Mogappair. The aim of the course was to give technical education in the field of garment manufacturing for ISO 9001 grade quality. Students with experience have also gone in for their own garment manufacturing units , he said.
