Southern India amateur golf from today

BANGALORE: The entire field of amateurs that participated in the LG -Eagleton Amateur Golf tournament have moved to the Bangalore Golf Club to participate in the second leg of the Southern India Amateur tournament starting from Tuesday.

Anirban Lahiri who won the Eagleton tournament with a score of 15 under 273 starts as favourite.

The tournament is the second leg of the LG all-India amateur golf tour.

Different conditions

The course conditions at the BGC course are, however, vastly different from the conditions at Eagleton. BGC has narrow fairways and bigger roughs.

The 18-hole course runs criss-cross over a smaller area of just 63 acres and the par 70 course is spread over 6,113 yards.

After the practice round here on Monday, Anirban said that the greens were much faster at BGC than at Eagleton.

The top ranked player on the IGU merit list, however, was looking forward to another successful tournament.

In the Am-Am tournament held at the BGC on Monday, Simarjeet Singh with a card of one-under 60 emerged winner.

B.G. Raj won the title in the 0-24 handicap section with 35 Stableford points while K.R. Prakash with 34 points was the runner-up.

K.R. Prakash also won the special prize of being closest to the pin on the third hole while S.C. Burman was closest to the pin on the 16th hole.
