BANGALORE: Tense moments were witnessed in Shantaveri Gopalagowda Nagar in Mudalpalya in Vijayanagar police station limits here on Tuesday after relatives and friends of a newly wed girl who committed suicide staged a protest in front of her house and alleged that she was murdered for dowry by her husband and his relatives. Soumya (19), hailing from Chennapatna in Bangalore Rural district reportedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her house on Monday night. She was married two months ago to Raju, a kerosene vendor. According to the police, friends and relatives of the girl were agitated and alleged that the husband and his relatives had murdered Soumya. Meanwhile, Raju has been arrested and a case of dowry harassment has been registered against him.
