To pursue career in online tutoring

COIMBATORE: Tutors Worldwide India Private Limited (TWWI) and Bharathiar University will jointly organise a recruitment drive at Nirmala College for Women, here on Saturday (June 23), Director and Chief Operations Officer of TWWI V. Mahalingam told presspersons here.

Service provider

TWWI was an online educational service provider, based in Chennai. With 420 online tutors, the company planned to recruit another 600 for its services. It had tied up with the Bharathiar University to tap the talent pool in Coimbatore.

“India is a major contributor to the United States’ education sector. In the next five years 25 lakh teachers are going to retire there. There is also a scarcity in terms of subject-specific teachers. Online tutoring is a good alternative career for non-IT and non-engineering graduates.

Cost-effectiveness

It is very popular because of its cost-effectiveness and also because Indians possess command over both the English language as well as the subject matter”, said Mr. Mahalingam.

Online tutors could teach students abroad on ad-hoc basis, extend help for problem solving and for examinations, or teach the full year’s curriculum. The students targeted would be between the fourth and twelfth grade.

Flair for teaching

V. Chandersekar, Vice-President, Talent-Acquisition, said: “The company is looking to recruit graduates, post-graduates and professionals with a flair for teaching, who are below 27 years. Those with English and Mathematics as subjects can attend the drive. All positions will be based in Chennai and will be available in night shifts only”.

Successful candidates would be offered letters of appointment on the same day after screening, a written test and interview.

Training period

After a three-month training period, they would become full time tutors. G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathiar University, said that the recruitment drive would prove that job opportunities for students in the language and non-IT streams were very much available.
