Shops rake in money in Kannur as demand soars
Over the last few days, the helmet has emerged as a product in great demand, if the two-wheeler users’ rush for purchasing helmets is any indication. The majority of two-wheeler riders having started using them to avoid being fined by the police. Shops selling helmets registered whopping sales, with even helmet-sceptic two-wheeler riders purchasing them to keep law enforcers at bay, and not exactly protect their heads. Expectedly, the demand exceeded the supply in many shops. Some of the two-wheeler users waited till they were certain that the police meant business this time and would not go soft on those who did not use helmets. The police held a checking drive in the town and imposed a fine of Rs. 100 on those who were not wearing helmets. Mohamed Nazeer
