NEW DELHI: The School of Open Learning at Delhi University has so far sold over 32,000 admission forms for its five undergraduate courses for the new academic year and 700 students have been enrolled till now. For the first time this year, admissions to the School of Open Learning were started simultaneously with those for the various constituent and affiliated colleges of the University that is June 1. It will continue till August 27. However, applications for admission with late fees can be received till October 31. There is no limit to the number of seats and all those students who apply within the stipulated time and are eligible will be given admission. Last year, the total number of students who were enrolled for all the three years in all the undergraduate and post-graduate courses was 2.30 lakh, informed Principal H. C. Pokhriyal. “We will certainly receive a lot more forms since the last date is still away. The School of Open Learning at Delhi University is becoming very popular among students as it offers a unique window of opportunity to them,” said Prof. Pokhriyal. Explaining further, he said the conventional as well as open learning system of the University had a lot of similarities owing to which any student can get a migration from a regular course to a correspondence one or vice versa, if he meets the requirements. “Both the School of Open Learning and the regular colleges have the same set of rules, similar syllabus, the same examining authority and even the question papers are almost the same. Most importantly, the degree conferred on the students is the same too,” said the Principal. Prof. Pokhriyal also pointed out that the School of Open Learning was no longer a destination for only those who did not score well in their Class XII examination. “Not everyone who comes to us is a victim of the percentage divide ,” he said.
