CET mandatory for law courses

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has made common entrance test (CET) for all law courses mandatory in Tamil Nadu. Quashing an April 19 Government Order, abolishing CET for law courses, the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice P. Jyothimani, directed the Government and Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University to hold it in six weeks.

The authorities “are directed to hold the CET as was done earlier for law courses within a period of six weeks and make admissions to all the law classes on the basis of the results in such a CET. The notification shall be issued within a period of two weeks from today. The examination and admission process shall be completed within a period of four weeks thereafter.” The judges were passing orders on a writ petition arguing that abolition of the CET and introduction of a normalisation scheme for law admissions could not be a prudent method.
