BU to start five new courses

Bangalore: Five new courses with thrust on integrated learning have been introduced in Bangalore University for the coming academic year.

The courses, which were formally approved by the varsity’s Academic Council on Friday, are M.A. (Social Sciences), Master of Business Studies, M.Sc. (Earth & Atmospheric Sciences), M.Sc. (Biological Sciences) and Master of Tourism Administration.

Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath said, “Throughout the country there is a wave of integrated learning and this is the best way forward. Students passing out of these courses would be well prepared for UPSC and KPSC exams, which require applicants to be proficient in more than one subject.” He was reacting to concerns that were raised in the meeting, about the employability and future prospects of the students.

The council also approved an M.Sc. course in Applied Flight Dynamics (AFD).

The course, which has been designed for people who have substantial flying experience, is also set to take off from the coming academic year.

Revaluation

Until now, a minimum of 15 per cent marks had to be scored by a student to qualify to apply for revaluation for a subject.

An exception has now been made for students who have scored 50 per cent in all other papers, and the 15 per cent cut-off will not apply to them.
