KARIMNAGAR: CPI-ML Maoists naxalite group had suffered a major setback in the north Telangana region in general and Karimnagar district in particular with the encounter of its central committee member Sande Rajamouli alias Prasad in Anantapur district on Friday night. Prasad, a native of Gudem village in Odela mandal, joined the party in the 1982 as an ordinary member had grown up to the rank of central committee member and politburo member of the Maoists group. As dalam member and commander, he unleashed terror in Husnabad and Huzurabad regions during the late 80s. He was instrumental in launching movements for the land to the landless poor and against ID liquor, construction of Asia’s biggest martyrs memorial in Husnabad, attack on Pothkapalli police station and snatching of weapons. In 1991, he had attacked a police outpost in Singarayakonda village during the jatara period in Koheda mandal in the district and killed two constables and snatched away their weapons. He was key person in detonating a powerful landmine in Ramaram of Husnabad mandal killing 13 police personnel. DCS
He took over the reins as Karimnagar district committee secretary when several of its secretaries were killed in various encounters. He had set up militant networks in the villages and strengthened the party in entire district. During his tenure, about 10 to 15 dalams moved in the district. He was involved in a total of 33 cases in Karimnagar district alone. Later, he became north Telangana special zonal committee member and had written a book ``North Telangana guerilla perspective” highlighting about the Maoists movement from 1985 to 1995.
