Two die in rain-related incidents in West Godavari

Rescue teams and equipment put in place

ELURU: A middle-aged man was killed in a wall collapse in Undi mandal while an unidentified woman drowned in a sheet of rainwater that accumulated in a rail underbridge in the city in the last two days.

Wall collapse

According to information, Karri Durga Rao from N.R.P. Agraharam was killed following collapse of a wall soaked in torrential rain.

A 52-year-old woman lost her life when she unwittingly walked through a huge puddle of rainwater that collected at Sneham varadhi, a rail underbridge, which was yet to be inaugurated.

Alert sounded

Meanwhile, District Fire Officer B.V.N Prasad told reporters that all personnel attached to the 13 fire stations in the district were put on alert in the light of the district still reeling under the cyclonic threat.

Control room

Rescue teams and equipment such as life jackets, emergency lights, ladders and ropes were put in place in a bid to face any eventuality, he added.

Meanwhile, a control room was set up at the Collectorate, enabling the administration to monitor the situation.
