There’s an opportunity at every corner

VISAKHAPATNAM: The heavy rains didn’t dampen their spirits. Armed with umbrellas and raincoats, hundreds of young enthusiastic candidates thronged the Rajeev Gandhi Indoor Stadium on the first day of The Hindu Opportunities Fa ir – 2007 on Saturday. . For many the fair opened a corridor of opportunities as they turned up to present their credentials before the teams of the participating companies.

While for the experienced candidates it was a field day, for the freshers it was an eye-opener as they felt the heat of the competition. Most IT firms preferred candidates from the streams of B.Sc (Computer Science), B.Tech, BCA and MCA. Many IT, ITES and BPO companies like Cognizant, HSBC, HDFC, Sutherland Global Services, Genpact, Verizon Data Services, Wipro BPO, Kenexa, Allsec Technologies, Brigade, Efftronix, Gems Techno Solutions, Nipuna, Nunet Technologies, Sankhya Technologies, SlashSupport India Pvt. Ltd., Xinthe Technologies, NIIT, Maple Software and Skylark short-listed and selected the candidates on the first day of the fair.

The main sponsors of the event, Cognizant conducted written tests and interviews and 165 candidates were short-listed and offered jobs at the end of the first day. HSBC short-listed 20, Allsec Technology short-listed 12, Sankhya Technology 12, Nipuna offered jobs to three, Skylark short-listed 41, 24x7 Customer offered jobs to three, Wipro BPO selected five, Kenexa shortlisted three, Sutherland Global Services short-listed 23, Brigade offered jobs to five and SlashSupport gave away 32 jobs on day one of the job fair. Kenexa, a leading provider of integrated human capital management services and technology solutions, were looking for HR professionals and facilities and administration manager.

The jobs will be based in Vizag for the company’s 100-crore project coming up at Rushikonda, general manager - Recruitment Services of Kenexa Srinagesh Kothuri said. “There will first be a three-month training programme in Hyderabad ,” he added.
