Indore: Unidentified persons shot dead a prisoner and injured three others, including a head constable, inside the Mhow jail near here on Saturday morning. Another inmate, Ashok Maratha, escaped with the attackers. Jeetu Thakur was shot inside the meeting room in the jail by the men, who had gone to see Maratha “against” rules, the police said. Thakur died before he could be admitted to hospital. Two persons who were with him, besides the head constable, were injured in the incident, Manish Kapooria, Additional Superintendent of Police, Mhow, told PTI. They had entered the prison “without” making any official entry in the records, Mr. Kapooria said. Thakur was convicted of the murder of trade union leader Vishnu Ustad. Mr. Kapooria said gang rivalry could be the reason for the incident. A few days ago, prisoners fought inside a jail in Indore.
