Work burden on postal staff decried

ANANTAPUR: Leaders of the National Union of Postal Employees, Group C, D, Postman and Rural Postal Employees’ Union have alleged that the Government is cancelling 2 per cent of vacancies in the department every year.

Speaking at a meeting here on Sunday, they said burden of work in postal offices is increasing every day with the meaningless business development work and work related to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

As a result, the burden of the sub post masters has gone up from ‘ashtavadhanam’ to ‘shatavadhanam (eight fold to hundred fold), they alleged.

‘Stagnated stock’

There is no control on offices due to work burden and it is magnifying into memos, chargesheets and harassment.

At the same time, the employees have become stagnated stock without any hike in pay scales or promotions, they alleged. The fate of extra departmental employees is deteriorating everyday, they said.

Circle presidents V. Venkataramudu and M. Murali, circle secretaries Gulam Rabbani and K.V. Rao, and several others spoke at the meeting.
