The news of drafting some legislators from Karnataka to travel to China and Europe to study their growth models has become a hot topic of discussion. It is an established fact that many of our elected representatives do need to do some spade work - for widening their knowledge base on many core issues concerning development - few of the selected personalities from many walks of life can be sent abroad for a case study for making out a case for emulation. But definitely not all of them on a foreign trip which looks quite ridiculous. Negative signals will eminate from such examples. Here in our midst many a problem confronting the people needs immediate attention. The administration should be geared for meeting the exigencies for conducting itself in a transparent and accountable mode. Nikita Khruscher once said: Promise to build a bridge even where there is no river. The biggest lesson we can learn from developed nations is to free the administration from red tape. All consequential things about progress shall fall in line. G.L. Panchashrit Reddy, Nizamabad Deplorable
It is most deplorable that some leaders of the UNPA, NDA and UPA have started personal accusations against the candidates to the President’s post. In fact, election to the office of President has become like any other election. There is no decorum and dignity to the process. As a matter of fact, election to the highest office of the country should have been made a unanimous choice, irrespective of political affiliations. It is the duty of the UPA, its chairperson and Prime Minster to hold an all-party meeting to evolve a consensus on the candidature to show respect to the office. When the chairperson of UPA had a series of meetings with the Left parties on the various names for the office of the President, where is the hitch for her in not having similar meetings with the Opposition parties and regional parties. The UPA has created a mess by announcing its candidate prematurely. As far as the election of President is concerned, every political party should keep aside their selfish agendas and narrow-mindedness and come out with a unanimous choice for the sake of the dignity of the office. J.P. Reddy, Nalgonda
