Letters to the Editor
President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s advice to journalists to put the cartoon back on the front page of newspapers and bring a smile on readers’ faces has rightly underlined the importance of cartoons. It is true that a cartoon in the morning newspaper defuses tension and helps to begin the day on a positive note.
S. Nallasivan,
Most of the cartoons not only bring a smile on the reader’s face but are also thought provoking. I would like to recall Jawaharlal Nehru’s words — “Do not spare me” — to cartoonist Shankar Pillai while inaugurating Shankar’s Weekly in 1949. One hopes newspapers will keep serving laughter through cartoons with their hidden message.
