Possibility of use of computers to be explored

Questionnaire issued to ascertain number of pending cases

TIRUCHI: Judicial officers in Tiruchi and Perambalur districts will shortly prepare an action plan for their respective courts to bring down the number of pending cases.

The action plan will seek to ensure speedy delivery of justice by making the most of the available infrastructure, besides exploring the possibility of the use of computers, wherever possible, and introduction of pre-trial settlement of cases.

Evolving an action plan for every court formed one of the major issues discussed at the three-day continuing education workshop for judicial officers of these two districts.

The workshop was sponsored by the Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy, Chennai.

The ambition of the Academy is to make Tamil Nadu, a ‘model State’ in the area of administration of judiciary. With this in mind, it has been conducting district-level workshops throughout the State.

Three workshops

So far, three workshops had been held in three districts.

Judicial officers all over the state will be covered the workshops by the end of the financial year.

Taking due advantage of the Mediation and Conciliation Centre and conducting hearings in the evening hours so that the available infrastructure is utilised without any additional expenditure are some of the measures suggested to the judicial officers for their consideration.

The Director of the Academy, S. Vimala, said that a questionnaire had been issued to each judicial officer to ascertain vital statistics including the number of pending cases.
