Incentives for village industries

MADURAI: To help people start new business ventures, Khadi and Village Industries Commission is arranging for loans up to Rs. 25 lakh through nationalised banks. Priority is accorded to manufacture agriculture-based food products such as ‘masala’ powders, pickles, preparing ‘rava’ and preservation of food products. This is offered in villages with a population of less than 20,000.

The KVIC has a social objective of providing employment and an economic objective of producing saleable articles. It is also implementing the Central Government’s Rural Employment Generation Programme in southern districts.

Entrepreneurs interested in commencing business ventures and in the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, physically handicapped, minorities and women categories will be provided 30 per cent of their project capital as subsidy. Those belonging to general category will be provided 25 per cent of their project capital as subsidy.
