Kozhikode: Mosquito Eradication Committee here has said that if the State does not control the vector now, in a couple of years it could lead to an alarming situation where it cannot be controlled. Fogging cannot provide a desirable solution and can be used only as a temporary method during an epidemic. A. Achuthan, president of the Committee and A.M. Karappan, general secretary, told reporters here on Friday. Day-time attack
The mosquitoes spreading dengue and chikungunya grow in and around the house. Mosquito nets and coils could help during night only. But Aedes mosquitoes, which spread chikungunya, bite during day time also. They said that the Committee had distributed nearly 4 lakh pamphlets and held nearly 300 study classes creating awareness on mosquitoes. The Kozhikode Corporation could not take forward the campaign it had unleashed jointly with the Committee in 2003, they added. More information can be had on phone: 2360508, 2900508.
