Life term for 8

CHENNAI: A Fast Track Court here has sentenced eight persons to life imprisonment, after finding them guilty of a revenge killing in Chennai in May 2003.

The FTC-IV Judge, Raja Chockalingam, awarded life-term to Francis, Raja, Senthil, Suresh, Koli Sekar, Babu, Sukumar and Jeeva for their involvement in the murder of Kathiravan.

The victim was killed in retaliation for the murder of Balaji on May 11, 2003. Kathiravan was murdered the next day. The first accused in the case, Sekar, died during the pendency of the case.

In another case, the FTC-II found two persons guilty of murder and sentenced them to undergo imprisonment for life.

The matter relates to the murder of Veera alias Veeramani of Tondiarpet here. On July 16 he was intercepted by a gang and hacked to death.

One of the seven accused in the case, Dilli Babu, was later murdered by another gang.
