Southern Discom launches special drive in Tirupati

Tirupati: In an apparent response to the increasing incidents of electricity-related mishaps and tragedies, the Tirupati-based Southern Power Distributiion Company Ltd (Discom) has launched a special drive to bring the problem under control.

The Chairman and the Managing Director of the Discom, P. Gopal Reddy, has said that as per the time-table finalised for the special drive, danger-prone wirings and locations would be identified before July, 13 and those needing minor repairs would be attended to before July, 24 and those needing major repairs would be completed by August 31. He said most of the casualties and accidents were either due to the loosening up of the overhead electrical cables, faulty earthings , use of low-guage wires or sub-standard electrical materials and said that during the drive the people would be educated to be wary of these things.
