State-wide cardiac health check-up programme

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Annamalai University’s Rajah Muthiah Heart Foundation proposes to conduct a state-wide comprehensive cardiac health check-up programme between July 16 and 29, including at five locations in the city.

Registered people will have to undergo comprehensive blood and urine tests, ECG and X-ray tests. Based on the results, the patients will consult with cardiologists. At the end of the entire programme, on August 12, a public education programme will be held in the university campus at Chidambaram.

Registration camp

“We are expecting around 25,000 to 35,000 people at the camp. At the end of it, our effort will help us to find the coronary artery disease predictability score in the State’s population,” said N. Chidambaram, secretary of the camp.

The registration for the camp began on June 30 and will end on July 10. The camp will be held in 27 places in the State, where the university already runs its study centres. About 80 to 100 cardiologists will participate in the camp. Every centre will screen about 1,500 people a day. The fasting blood test will be taken from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., Dr. Chidambaram said.

Investigation packages

The camp will include two investigation packages. The first package costing Rs. 800 will include echocardiogram, X-ray and an ECG, besides routine blood and urine tests and is for those who are in the high-risk category, have already suffered from cardiac problems or have had heart attacks. The second package costing Rs. 400 is for others. Participants will be given case folders that will include a booklet suggesting lifestyle modification to suit their condition.
