Stalin distributes fund allotment certificates to 5 town panchayats

CHENNAI: Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin here on Saturday distributed fund allotment certificates to five town panchayats, which are among the 45 selected for development works under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns.

A sum of Rs. 63.24 crore has been allocated for the 45 town panchayats, which include Tirukkalzhukundram, Musiri, Kalakkad, Kombai and Cheranmadevi. Works on roads, platforms, rainwater drainage and underground sewerage facilities would be taken up under the scheme.

Mr. Stalin also distributed appointment orders to nine legal heirs of deceased Metrowater employees on compassionate grounds. Twenty-six 26 persons have been identified for appointment under the scheme, which has been revived after 15 years.

During the review meeting, Mr. Stalin ordered completion of the 100-MLD sea water desalination plant works at Minjur within the deadline.

Mr. Stalin also wanted completion of the three garbage transfer stations in North Chennai and two in South Chennai within the stipulated period. The project involves an outlay of Rs. 7.5 crore.

He wanted immediate commencement of bridge works at Mint Junction, Basin Bridge Road, Cochrane Basin Road Junction, L.B. Road in Tiruvanmiyur and the Madhya Kailash-IT Corridor junction.
