THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Education M.A. Baby has said that the objections raised by the self-financing engineering college managements’ association against the Government Order (GO) on this year’s admissions will be placed before the Cabinet. The Minister said this while replying to questions at a press conference held after discussions with the association’s representatives here on Monday. He said that during the discussions, the managements’ representatives had mainly raised concerns about reservation. “The Government and managements could arrive at an understanding on many issues, including the ratio of government and management quota, the fee level and other norms of admissions,” he said. “But we could not arrive at an agreement on the reservation issue. The Government had informed the management representatives that the issue would be placed before the Cabinet as the original GO was issued after the Cabinet decision. The issues raised by the managements would be given due consideration and the Government does not want the agreement worked out with the managements of the self-financing engineering colleges to get upset on minor issues,” the Minister said. The Minister conceded that there was some deviations in the GO from the original agreement arrived at between the managements and the Government. “The reason for those deviations would be probed into,” he added AIDS campaign
Asked about the initiatives launched on Sunday at Pambady in Kottayam district to convince parents of other students to allow HIV-positive children to study in a school there, the Minister said though that initiative failed to make an immediate breakthrough, the Government would continue the efforts.
