Jail term for Village Administrative Officer

TIRUCHI: The Chief Judicial Magistrate–cum-Special Judge for the Prevention of Corruption Act, Karur, Chinrasu on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) to undergo five years rigorous imprisonment for demanding and obtaining bribe to make name transfer in a patta in 2002.

The Special Judge also imposed a fine of Rs. 2,000 on the VAO, Karuppasamy, while pronouncing the verdict.

A press release from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), Tiruchi unit, here said that Karuppasamy, who was the VAO of Karuvappanaickenpettai, demanded Rs.600 as bribe from Kannagi of Thimmachipuram in Kulithalai taluk in Karur district in March 2002 when she approached him for a name transfer in the patta.

The woman lodged a complaint with the DVAC, Tiruchi unit, following which the sleuths of the investigating agency laid a trap and arrested Karuppasamy while he was obtaining the bribe amount, the release added.
