AGITATION: School students picketing the Dindigul-Natham Road at Ponagaram near Dindigul on Wednesday.
DINDIGUL: Students of a matriculation school picketed the Natham-Dindigul main road here on Wednesday. They demanded a speed-breaker near the school zone. The students resorted to the picketing as a car proceeding to Dindigul from Natham knocked down an eight-year-old boy in front of the school and sped away. They told the police that vehicles were going at a great speed posing a grave threat to schoolchildren. Immediate steps must be taken to control speed of the vehicles either by laying rumbling strips or installing a barricade in front of their school. The injured Raju, third class student of a middle school at Palamarathupatti, was admitted to the Government Hospital for treatment. Acting on information, Sub-Inspector Jasmine Mumtaz, who was on duty near the Nagal Nagar Bridge, tried to block the car that hit the boy. The driver did not stop it. After a hot chase in the interior roads of the town, she, at last, caught the driver and seized the car. A case has been registered.
