Bank branch declared open

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The District Collector (in-charge), S. Malarvizhi, inaugurated the 10th branch of Union Bank of India on Nachi Nadar Street here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the branch, she said that the overall development of the branch was based on the development of its customers.

The branch should help its customers by giving them timely loans for their development. She gave away loans to the tune of Rs. 52 lakh to 23 persons.

The bank’s Assistant General Manager, Selvaraj, said 139 branches of the bank were functioning in the State after its first branch was opened in 1955 in Chennai. The bank, which was started by Mahatma Gandhi in 1919, has got 2,237 branches across the country.

The total business of the bank was 1.50 lakh crore.

It has a deposit of Rs. 87,217 crore. A total of 839 ATMs are functioning and another 125 ATMs are coming up.
