CUDDALORE: Contract labourers of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation called off their strike after an agreement on wage hike was reached on Wednesday. They will return to work from 6 a.m. on Thursday. According to P. Kuppuswamy, secretary, All India Trade Union Congress, the NLC management agreed to hike wages to Rs.19.23 a day for about 13,000 contract labourers with retrospective effect. The management would pay the arrears for the last three-and-half years. Each labourer would be entitled to over Rs.20,000, entailing a financial commitment of Rs.25 crore to the management.
