TIRUPATI:Leaders and activists of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its frontal outfits laid siege to the SV Government Polytechnic building here on Thursday and made a vain bid to disrupt the EAMCET counselling sessions. However, policemen removed the agitators from the scene, arresting 20 persons. The situation was tense right from the morning given the occurrence of a similar incident at Hyderabad a couple of days back. Convergence
Led by BJYM state president G. Bhanuprakash Reddy, the agitators, including BJP city president S.Srinivas and ABVP district convenor P. Amar, started converging in front of the campus and shouting slogans against religion-based quota. They pointed out that even B. R. Ambedkar, revered as the Father of the Constitution was clearly against such religion-based reservations and that the Supreme Court too had opposed it. Violent protest
The protest turned violent when they started accusing the state Government for allegedly attempting to divide students on religious lines and infusing mutual distrust on campuses, when the armed cops started chasing them away, arresting twenty plus students. The counseling later resumed in a peaceful manner .
