Dehra Dun: A moderate earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter Scale hit parts of the seismically-active hill State of Uttarakhand early on Monday. But there was no loss of life or any significant damage to property. The quake that jolted several parts of the State at 4.32 a.m. had its epicentre at Gaumukh, north of Uttarkashi, Meteorological Department said here. Officials said the epicentre was 33 km below the ground, which could be the reason for zero casualty. There were reports of cracks in some houses in Uttarkashi. A powerful aftershock of similar magnitude was also felt at 4.43 a.m. — PTI
