TIRUCHI: The first meeting of the Syndicate of the newly-formed Anna University, Tiruchi, will be held by August end. The 70-member Academic Council will meet one week earlier. The university, which has 50 engineering colleges under it in the central districts after the carving out of Anna University, Tirunelveli, will adopt a two-tier administrative system. The decisions of the Academic Council would come up for ratification before the Syndicate, Vice-Chancellor V. Ramachandran told reporters on Monday. The Vice-Chancellor will be the ex-officio chairman of the 15-member Syndicate comprising Secretaries of Higher Education, Industry, Information Technology, Law and Director of Technical Education; one Chairman of Faculties; one professor or head of department of a Government Engineering College (the Alagappa College of Engineering and Technology at Karaikudi); two representatives of public sector undertakings; two representatives of private sector undertakings; two principals of affiliated colleges; two representatives of college managements; and one member of the Legislative Assembly. The university has already sent its choice of industry representatives to the Government for approval. Transfer of buildings
The transfer of buildings of Bharathidasan Institute of Technology (BIT) and over 300 acres of land to the technical university by Bharathidasan University is waiting for the government’s approval which is expected within a month. The university will absorb 38 BIT employees. The process of regular appointments would commence subsequently. The Syndicate and Academic Council halls are being readied for the regular meetings. Boards of Studies
Four Boards of Studies have already had one sitting each. More such boards would be created along with commencement of new programmes, said Mr. Ramachandran.
