HARARE: President Robert Mugabe said on Tuesday there was no going back on price controls and told lawmakers they faced a massive task in guiding Zimbabwe through what he called “adverse challenges” in the economic crisis.

A government order last month to slash prices by around 50 per cent to curb inflation has led to acute shortages of staple foods, gasoline and many basics, including matches needed during daily power and water outages. — AP
