Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M.Subrahmanyam has warned that stern action would be initiated against the illicit bus operators that are causing huge revenue losses to the RTC. Participating as the chief guest at the RTC platinum jubilee regional level celebrations function here on Wednesday, he has advised the RTC staff to strive for reducing the accidents to minimum level and increase the occupancy rate so that the organisation would run on sound lines. He was happy to note that the RTC had improved its efficiency when compared to the previous years and maintaining punctuality ensuring safe travel. Majji Narayanarao Chairman RTC Vizianagaram zone advisory council who presided, claimed that the RTC which was facing the survival problem two years ago with losses accruing over Rs.1,450 crore, is now making profits which speaks volumes about its successful functioning. Making it clear that the entire credit for taking the RTC on the way of profit goes to the officers and men of the organisation, he said if the same trend continues no force can revert it. Expressing concern over the trend of damaging the RTC buses in every agitation, the Chairman has advised the people to protect the buses from vandalism. New services
Y. Jaya Kumar Reddy Deputy Commissioner of Transport said that RTC performance had improved considerably in recent times which is evident with the number of private buses operating in the district getting diminished from 300 buses to a mere 50 now. He said the secret of RTC’s success lies in improving its services in tune with the requirement of the people. S. Ravindra Babu, Regional Manager of RTC said that they were serving the people of East Godavari operating 741 buses in 260 routes. He claimed that the RTC East Godavari region had earned a profit of Rs.40 lakhs during last year and new services are being introduced taking care of the commuters needs. The Collector released the East Godavari region bus timetable and also gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions conducted for students.
